## Key points

- Marvel is teasing Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom via co-star comments, not previews
- Russo brothers confirmed post-production progress ahead of December 2026 release
- Co-stars Huerta and Atwell hint at Doom's impact without revealing details

## Summary

Marvel Studios has been gradually revealing details of Robert Downey Jr's portrayal of Doctor Doom in the lead-up to "Avengers: Doomsday", relying on comments from co-stars rather than official previews to build anticipation while keeping the performance itself firmly under wraps. The approach reflects the significance of the casting, which sees Downey return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a villainous role after previously playing Iron Man, and has generated sustained interest as the film's release approaches.

At San Diego Comic-Con, directors Anthony and Joe Russo confirmed the film was in active post-production with fewer than 150 days left before its December 2026 release, underlining the scale of its ensemble cast and the complexity of Doom's storyline. Cast members have offered limited insight without disclosing specifics: Tenoch Huerta said his character Namor would have no direct scenes with Doom, though the villain's actions would still ripple into Atlantean plotlines, while Hayley Atwell, who does appear alongside Downey, described an unusually intense atmosphere on set that suggested his performance had left a strong mark on production.
