Marvel Studios has confirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars will be the only MCU film released in 2027, leaving a 12-month gap after Avengers: Doomsday premieres in December 2026. Studio boss Kevin Feige told Empire the decision reflects a deliberate strategy to prioritise quality over quantity, avoiding the "spread thin" output that fuelled accusations of superhero fatigue during years when Marvel released up to four films annually. The announcement came as a surprise to fans following Marvel's SDCC 2026 Hall H panel, which ended without any new 2027 titles being revealed.

The gap follows Disney's 2024 pledge to slow output to two or three films and two TV shows a year, and comes just before Spider-Man: Brand New Day ends its own year-long drought this Friday, 31 July. Feige described Secret Wars as pivotal groundwork for what comes next, insisting it is not a reboot, while confirming 2028 will bring Ghost Rider (starring Ryan Gosling) and a new Black Panther film led by David Jonsson, set for 15 December 2028. Marvel fans will still get some 2027 content via Sony's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in June and Daredevil: Born Again's third season on television.
