BAFTA has updated its TV Awards rules to give itself the power to scrutinise entries that use generative AI, stressing that the awards recognise "human achievement" in television production. The move reflects growing unease across the entertainment industry about AI's role in creative work and follows similar steps by other awards bodies to safeguard human authorship as generative tools become more widespread.

Under the new clause, BAFTA can request further information about how generative AI or other digital tools were used and the extent of human creative involvement where relevant to judging a work. Separately, HBO Max will now be classed as a "broadcaster" for entry purposes following its UK launch, meaning shows must still be initiated and developed in the UK with creative control based there. The BAFTA TV Awards are now open for entries, with nominations due on 22 March 2027 and the ceremony set for 9 May 2027.
