Barcelona steal Rodri away from Real Madrid and plan to make him new Busquets
Rodri has completed his move from Manchester City to Barcelona, ending speculation about the Spain captain's future and positioning him as the long-awaited successor to club legend Sergio Busquets. The 30-year-old, who was named the best player at this summer's World Cup as Spain triumphed, flew into Barcelona on a private jet on Monday evening to finalise the deal after Barça's third bid was accepted by City.
Barcelona will pay Manchester City £65.4m (€60m plus up to €15m in add-ons, €11m of which is virtually guaranteed), with Rodri signing a four-year contract worth around €15m a season until 30 June 2030. He spent seven seasons at the Etihad, winning four Premier League titles and scoring the winner in the 2023 Champions League final, and won the 2024 Ballon d'Or before joining City from Atlético Madrid in 2019. The transfer, agreed with unusual speed after barely being discussed a fortnight earlier, followed a medical on Tuesday.
