## Key points

- Villa beat Viking 3-1 to keep their perfect Champions League record.
- Barkley and Buendía put Villa in control before half-time.
- Christiansen scored late after Viking improved following the break.

## Summary

Aston Villa beat Viking 3-1 to extend their perfect start in the Champions League, though a late goal denied them a clean sheet and the chance to finish the night top of the 36-team table. Villa’s first-half control effectively secured the win, while Viking improved after the break and showed why their earlier draw with Bayern Munich was no fluke.

Ross Barkley headed Villa ahead from an Ibrahim Mbaye corner, and Emiliano Buendía scored a penalty awarded after a VAR review. Henrik Heggheim’s own goal made it 3-0 before Peter Christiansen volleyed in Viking’s consolation. The Norwegian champions had recently ended a 34-year wait for their league title and drawn 3-3 with Bayern.
