Battlefield 6’s Record-Breaking Success Earns EA CEO $38 Million Payday, But Laid-Off Devs Aren’t Around to Celebrate

IGN · 8 hours ago

EA CEO Andrew Wilson received a total compensation of $38.6 million for the 2026 fiscal year, an $8 million rise driven largely by the record-breaking commercial success of Battlefield 6. The pay rise comes despite EA laying off staff across its Battlefield teams just months after the game's launch, prompting criticism that the developers behind the game's success were not around to share in its rewards.

Battlefield 6 launched in October 2025 and became the best-selling game of the year, outperforming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and NBA 2K26, with over seven million copies sold in its first three days. In March 2026, EA cut an undisclosed number of jobs across its Battlefield studios to "better align" with community priorities. An SEC filing subsequently credited the game's "high-quality launch" and strong reviews with helping EA meet its objectives amid an "unpredictable external environment." The news follows EA's $55 billion acquisition in 2025 by a consortium including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners, and comes as Battlefield 6 continues receiving new content, including an upcoming Top Gun collaboration in August.
