## Key points

- Decorations were stolen from the Nutting family for a second year.
- Their free haunted house has been a neighbourhood tradition for 20 years.
- A fundraiser is seeking $900, and the family plans to open on 31 October.

## Summary

The Nutting family’s Halloween decorations were stolen from their San Leandro home for the second year in a row, upsetting a family that has shared a free haunted attraction with its neighbourhood for 20 years. The theft threatens a tradition that gives local children and families an accessible Halloween activity.

Last year, security footage showed a thief taking decorations, but the family had no cameras in place for this year’s theft. A relative, Mary Alvarez, started a fundraiser to help replace the items; it had raised $200 towards a $900 goal by Thursday afternoon. The family still plans to open the haunted house on 31 October.
