BBC 6 Music’s new ‘Indie Forever’ stream to launch with show from The Maccabees’ Felix White and more

BBC Radio 6 Music has unveiled the line-up for "Indie Forever", a new 24-hour stream launching exclusively on BBC Sounds on Wednesday 22 July. Dedicated to indie pop, rock and classics from the 1980s to the 2010s and beyond, the stream marks an expansion of the station's output and a celebration of four decades of independent music, with UK artists making up 70 per cent of its playlist.

The stream launches with The Morning Session, a weekday show hosted by veteran broadcaster Steve Lamacq and The Maccabees' Felix White, billed as a homage to Radio 1's Evening Session. Other programming includes City Soundtracks, a collaboration with Music Venue Trust and BBC Introducing spotlighting grassroots venues; Beth Ditto's Indie Forever Disco at weekends; repeats and archive editions of Jarvis Cocker's shows; and artist collections and documentaries on acts such as The Smiths, Oasis, The Strokes and Wolf Alice. The launch follows a busy year for 6 Music, which staged its 2026 festival in Manchester earlier in the year.
