BBC Sport has discontinued its flagship Women's Football Show for the new Women's Super League season, despite insisting it remains "fully committed to women's football and the WSL". The weekly highlights programme, which aired on BBC One on Sunday nights after first appearing on iPlayer, will be replaced by digital-first coverage, including a newly launched YouTube channel, mirroring the strategy used during this summer's men's World Cup when linear highlights shows were dropped in favour of online packages.

The BBC says highlights from every WSL match will still be available across iPlayer, YouTube and its website, alongside 25 live WSL matches and Uefa Women's Champions League coverage. It is also reportedly planning a new YouTube chat show hosted by Alex Scott, in the style of Gary Neville's The Overlap, featuring England internationals. The move follows the BBC's loss of Women's FA Cup rights to Channel 4 and TNT Sports, and the axing of Football Focus, and has reportedly disappointed some BBC Sport insiders, several of whom learned of the cancellation only when it was reported elsewhere in August. The new WSL season begins on Friday, with London City Lionesses hosting Manchester United.
