Becky G Reveals Her ‘Freak in the Sheets’ Era to ‘Playboy’: ‘God Forbid She Talk About It’
Becky G has spoken candidly to Playboy about the sensual, adult-oriented direction of her fifth studio album, Baraja Bendita, describing it as her most explicit work yet and a deliberate rejection of the divide between her public image and private life. The 29-year-old, who rose to fame with "Shower" at 17, said she was pushing back against double standards around women discussing their sexuality openly, framing the album as a personal statement rather than a broader commentary on women in general.
The singer explained the record follows the more emotionally introspective albums Esquinas (2023) and Encuentros (2024), and marks a shift towards house and Latin rhythms, bolder production and a return to the rap style she says the industry once found hard to market. She also credited the LGBTQ+ community as a central inspiration behind the album's club-focused sound, calling them core to the spirit of dance and soul music. In April, Becky G had been honoured with the Global Impact Award as part of Billboard Español's 2026 Latin Women in Music feature.
