Bella Thorne Says ‘Spring Breakers 2’ Producers Tapped Her To Write, Direct & Star In Sequel After Seeing Directorial Debut
Bella Thorne says she will write, direct and star in Spring Breakers 2, becoming the sequel’s filmmaker after producers viewed an early cut of her directorial debut, Color Your Hurt. The development matters because it puts Thorne in creative control of a follow-up to Harmony Korine’s 2012 cult crime drama, while leaving uncertainty over whether original cast members will return.
Thorne said producers first asked her to submit a script, which they approved, and that the original production team is involved. She did not confirm returning actors from the first film, whose cast included James Franco, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine; an earlier version, Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain, had been announced in 2025 with Thorne attached to star.
