## Key points

- Bellingham's double sends England into the World Cup semi-finals.
- England beat Norway 2-1 after extra time in Miami.
- VAR decisions went against both sides in a tense tie.

## Summary

England have reached the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup after a 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in the Miami quarter-final, with Jude Bellingham scoring both goals to settle a tense and controversial knockout tie. Bellingham cancelled out Andreas Schjelderup's opener just before the interval before striking again in extra time to send Thomas Tuchel's side through, though the manager was sharply critical of his team's display afterwards.

The contest was heavily shaped by the video assistant referee, with interventions going against both sides: Norway had a second-half goal from Torbjorn Heggem ruled out for a foul in the build-up, while England saw an early penalty award overturned when a review found their own player had initiated the contact. Tuchel described the performance as uninspired and suggested England had relied on fortune rather than quality to progress, despite securing a place in the last four.
