Beloved Fantasy Book Series Redfall Officially Returns in 2027

Polygon · 3 hours ago

The Redwall fantasy series, created by the late Brian Jacques, is set to gain a 23rd instalment. "Orphans of Mossflower" will publish on 7 September 2027, ending a 15-year gap since "The Rogue Crew" appeared shortly after Jacques's death in 2011. The announcement matters to fans because a follow-up novel had long been rumoured but never confirmed, and the new book arrives alongside a boxed set of all 22 previous titles to mark the series' 40th anniversary.

The release date coincides with 40 years since Redwall first appeared in the UK in 1986 (and in the US the following year). No plot synopsis has been issued, but the title and past clues, including details from a 2010 Penguin naming contest revealed by the winner in 2015, suggest the story may follow the Abbey's residents fleeing to Salamandastron under attack, likely continuing directly from "The Rogue Crew". Separately, a planned Netflix adaptation of the series by "Over the Garden Wall" creator Patrick McHale was cancelled earlier this year.
