Beloved local coyote named Wendy is killed after being shot in the head as crushed locals demand justice

A wild coyote known locally as Wendy has died after being shot in the head, sparking grief and anger among Los Angeles residents. The animal, rescued last month from Studio City after residents noticed facial deformities, was found to have a shattered jaw and two pellets lodged in her head, with the resulting chronic infection so severe that vets ruled surgery would be too cruel and she was euthanised instead.

Wildlife Care of Southern California, the non-profit that treated Wendy, said the infection had eaten away the bones from her left eye to the tip of her nose, leaving her unable to eat solid food, blind in one eye and deaf in one ear; she also appeared to have been struck by a car. Southern California Pit Bull Rescue is now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever shot her, and is urging the public to come forward, noting it is illegal to discharge a firearm within Los Angeles city limits.
