Ben Folds has been named as the producer and music director of a new Off-Broadway one-woman musical titled We've Been Here Before, in which he will also perform. The news follows an active week for the musician, coming shortly after Ben Folds Five announced the 30th-anniversary release of the shelved first attempt at their debut album.

The show is written by and stars Folds's frequent collaborator Lindsey Kraft, known for Grace And Frankie and The Shrink Next Door, and follows a 40-year-old woman experiencing a midlife "awakening" that prompts a sudden urge to become a songwriter alongside a relationship with a secret online confidant. Performances are scheduled to run from 4 to 17 August at the SoHo Playhouse. Separately, Folds recently issued an urgent open letter about the future of the National Symphony Orchestra following his resignation as its Artistic Advisor.
