Bendita Film Sales has acquired the international sales rights to "Donkey Princess," the third feature from Chilean directing duo Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña, which is set to have its world premiere in the main International Competition at the Locarno Film Festival, placing it in contention for the Golden Leopard. The deal renews the Tenerife-based company's relationship with the pair, having previously handled their 2024 film "The Hyperboreans," which premiered in Cannes' Directors' Fortnight, and follows their acclaimed debut "The Wolf House."

The film is set in a fairy-tale kingdom where love has been outlawed by King Arthur following the death of his wife, and follows his daughter Princess Diana, who at 15 falls for Lalo from a neighbouring kingdom; when Lalo is banished, Diana uses a magical bracelet to travel across parallel worlds in search of him. The directors describe the project as a "reimagining" of fantasy cinema, moving through worlds that function as distinct genres — from medieval fantasy to Hitchcock-inspired interiors, retro sci-fi and real locations — and note it departs from their earlier work through naturalistic acting. Produced by León & Cociña Films and Globo Rojo Films in Chile, it is co-produced by companies in France, the Netherlands, Uruguay and Germany, with a score by Jean-Benoît Dunckel of French duo AIR.
