Berlin Pride attack suspect shot and killed during police operation
A white van struck crowds at Berlin's Pride celebration on Saturday evening, killing one woman and injuring at least 29 others, followed by a stabbing incident. Police launched an intensive manhunt that concluded Sunday afternoon when officers fatally shot the suspect, Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen with Lebanese heritage, after he rushed at them with a knife in Spandau district.
Authorities characterised the attack as "Islamist terror" based on the suspect's documented background: a 2025 attempt to reach Syria to join the Islamic State group, detention in Lebanon, and a 2024 conviction for preparing serious violence.
