## Summary

Chromebooks remain the better choice for most people seeking an affordable laptop, despite the arrival of Googlebooks, Google’s more premium laptops running a customised version of Android. The article cautions that Googlebooks are first-generation products with compromises, and recommends considering value and everyday usability before buying one.

The Acer Chromebook Plus 516 is the leading budget pick, often costing under $500 and offering an Intel Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage; it can fall to $350 on sale.
