## Key points

- Trump criticised Maher in a 1,300-word post.
- Maher responded with jokes and disputed several claims.
- Their recent White House dinner was meant for conversation.

## Summary

Bill Maher responded on his HBO programme after Donald Trump attacked him in a lengthy Truth Social post, despite Maher having recently defended their White House dinner. Maher joked about the criticism and said the dinners were meant to allow them to talk and disagree, but argued that Trump had misrepresented things he had said.

Trump’s 1,300-word post called Maher a “complete and total loser” and a “major POTHEAD”, criticised his appearance and said he would not watch Maher’s programme again. Maher disputed Trump’s claims about his views on disarming Iran, who contacted whom and how the White House dinner came about, showing a clip and photographs in response. Ted Cruz and Kid Rock were guests on the episode.
