Billy Porter Set to Receive Legacy Award From Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation

Billy Porter will receive the Elizabeth Taylor Legacy Award at the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation’s Los Angeles fundraiser, A Night of Compassion. The recognition highlights his public advocacy on HIV and AIDS, while Vanity Fair will receive the Commitment to End AIDS Award for its longstanding coverage of the issue; the event aims to support communities affected by HIV amid continuing uncertainty.

The fundraiser will take place at the Beverly Hills Hotel on 17 September, hosted by CNN’s Laura Coates and sponsored by Gilead Sciences, with Deborah Cox performing. Porter, an Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner known for Pose and Kinky Boots, publicly disclosed his HIV status in 2021; Vanity Fair is being honoured in part for HIV/AIDS coverage dating back to a 1992 cover featuring Elizabeth Taylor holding a condom.
