Billy Zane, Kevin Chapman and C.S. Lee have joined Alex Trumble in the cast of Wekiwa, an original creature feature written and directed by Oscar-winning sound veteran Richard L. Anderson. Anderson, who won an Academy Award for his sound work on Raiders of the Lost Ark and received further nominations for Poltergeist and Daylight, is making the film with producers Salomé Breziner and Scott Rosenfelt, with principal photography due to begin in early September in the Orlando area.

Set in the summer of 1983, the film follows a showman (Trumble) who has invested everything in a Florida island resort long avoided by the Seminole, only for a British documentary crew led by Zane's character and a marine biologist to uncover something sinister lurking in the island's lagoon. The wider ensemble includes Oliver Wyman, Ty Neckar, Tyler Steelman, and newcomers Xhaania Wright and Caroline Jane West, with the producers describing the project as aiming to leave audiences "grinning and a little afraid of the water."
