## Key points

- Knightley and Whishaw return as close friends caught up in espionage.
- A missing handler and coerced hits drive the new season’s plot.
- The review praises its blend of action, wit and melancholy.

## Summary

Netflix’s *Black Doves* returns for a six-hour second season, with Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw reprising their roles as undercover agent Helen and hitman Sam. The review praises the pair’s lively, convincing friendship and the series’ mix of spy action, humour and melancholy, which helps it stand out despite familiar espionage plots.

Helen’s politician husband Wallace has become prime minister and is preparing a multinational peace summit, while her handler Reed goes missing. Meanwhile, Sam is coerced into carrying out a series of killings by a mysterious operative. The review also highlights the growing roles of younger operatives Eleanor and Williams, and says viewers need little more than a basic memory of the first season to follow the new one.
