## Key points

- Shuri’s grief shapes her becoming Black Panther.
- She chooses peace after her mother’s death.
- The writer hopes she gets room to shine in *Avengers: Doomsday*.

## Summary

*Black Panther: Wakanda Forever* gives Shuri a painful, gradual path to becoming Black Panther, making it a moving tribute to Chadwick Boseman and a convincing transfer of the role. The article argues that Shuri’s unresolved grief, anger and eventual choice of peace make her rise unusually human, and that she deserves a meaningful part in *Avengers: Doomsday*.

After T’Challa dies from a mystery illness, Shuri cannot save him or recreate the heart-shaped herb. A year later, conflict with Namor and the loss of Queen Ramonda push her towards revenge, but she ultimately spares Namor, helps end the fighting and begins to mourn. The film closes with Shuri burning her mourning clothes and meeting her nephew, T’Challa II; she is due to return in *Avengers: Doomsday* alongside Thor and the original X-Men.
