At San Diego Comic-Con, director Ryan Coogler confirmed that Black Panther 3 will be released on 15 December 2028 and revealed that actor David Jonsson will play the grown son of T'Challa, a character first introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever. The announcement matters as it signals Marvel Studios' next steps for the franchise following the death of Chadwick Boseman, with existing cast members lending their public support to the newcomer taking on such a symbolically important role.

Jonsson, previously seen in last year's The Long Walk directed by Francis Lawrence, joined Coogler, Kevin Feige, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke on stage for the reveal. Speaking to Deadline afterwards, Duke, who plays M'Baku, said he had met Jonsson for the first time that day and wanted to offer him the same "grace" and support he received when Black Panther was his own first film, telling him simply to "come play."
