A 39-year-old Florida woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly drugging a 69-year-old man she met through a dating app, in a case Polk County authorities have dubbed the "black widow" incident. Sheriff Grady Judd said Samantha Adams, who had introduced herself to the victim as "Nala," attempted to overdose and extort him during what officials described as a two-to-three-month relationship arranged around paid sex. The case has drawn attention because of the calculated nature of the alleged plot and the victim's vulnerability, and detectives say further investigations into Adams are ongoing.

Court records state that on 17 August, following a dispute over a car Adams was meant to return, she gave the victim a drink laced with benzodiazepine at his home, then demanded $1,000 after he made a sexual advance; when he could not pay, she left. He later became unwell while driving, was pulled from his vehicle by his granddaughter, and was found unconscious, prompting a 911 call. Hospital tests showed benzodiazepine poisoning, dehydration and acute kidney injury, and investigators noted he had also grown inexplicably drowsy after previous meetings with Adams, once falling asleep at the wheel. He was not known to use opioids or benzodiazepines, and Adams was arrested on 27 August outside a Polk County shop, facing attempted murder and further charges.
