BLacklight and Dark Star Pictures will distribute "Wildcards," a courtroom drama from writer-director Wes Miller, beginning 27 August. The film centres on the trial of Theodore Sterling, a privileged young man charged with sexually assaulting a Black woman, as jurors from different backgrounds examine evidence whilst tensions mount between state prosecutor James Jones and veteran defence attorney Greg Sims. A mysterious witness emerges claiming knowledge of the night in question, forcing the legal proceeding to confront fundamental questions about credibility and systemic bias.

Rather than pursue a conventional theatrical release, the distributors have devised an unconventional rollout combining screenings with hosted panel discussions featuring performers, creative team members, and in select cities, local community leaders and cultural figures. Miller stated his goal involves creating substantive genre entertainment whilst demonstrating cinema's cultural importance, with the touring approach allowing the film to reach audiences directly across communities. The strategy positions each theatrical stop as a shared occasion for dialogue and reflection extending beyond the closing credits.
