Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire has announced the birth of three baby primates: critically endangered cotton-top tamarin twins and a coppery titi monkey. The zoo says the arrivals support its conservation work, particularly for cotton-top tamarins, whose wild population is continuing to fall as habitat is damaged by human activity.

The coppery titi was born to Sirena, who was herself born at Twycross in 2010. Cotton-top tamarins are thought to number about 2,000 in the wild and usually have twins; fathers typically provide most of the infants’ care, as coppery titi fathers also do during their offspring’s first six months. Coppery titis are not classified as endangered, but face threats from poaching in Peru and Brazil.
