Blizzard fires World of Warcraft game master who insta-killed bosses for friends

PC Gamer · 3 hours ago

Blizzard has dismissed a World of Warcraft employee after confirming that they used development-only spells to give a group of friends an unfair advantage in a live Mythic+ dungeon. The case matters because it involved misuse of privileged internal tools in competitive content, prompting Blizzard to reaffirm that fair play and the integrity of its rankings are essential.

The employee reportedly instant-killed bosses during a level +23 Nexus-Point Xenas run, including one with almost 90% health remaining, after a player asked for help completing the dungeon in time. Blizzard said its logs confirmed that one employee had breached its code of conduct, that the dismissal took effect immediately, and that it is also acting against player accounts that knowingly participated; the run had already been removed from ranking records.

  • Blizzard fired one employee for abusing development tools.
  • The employee helped friends complete a +23 dungeon.
  • Blizzard is also penalising complicit player accounts.
