Blizzard has begun hinting at a new StarCraft project ahead of BlizzCon 2026, with fans discovering hidden, glitch-styled messages embedded in the code of the official StarCraft website. The cryptic clues, some encoded in binary, point towards a story set decades after StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void, fuelling speculation about a possible StarCraft 3 or a long-rumoured shooter set in the franchise's universe. This comes shortly after reports that Blizzard is reviving StarCraft with help from Korean publisher Nexon, suggesting real momentum behind the dormant series for the first time in years.

The hidden messages reference Terran Dominion lore, including a "special order 176," a Banshee transport ship, the frontier world of Roxara, and a "Theta Squadron" operation dated to the year 2575 — roughly 70 years after Legacy of the Void. Other snippets mention tracking unidentified lifeforms and redacted medical patients, though all clues found so far relate only to the Terran faction. Separately, Blizzard is reportedly developing an open-world StarCraft shooter led by former Far Cry producer Dan Hay, first alluded to via a 2024 job listing. StarCraft debuted in 1998 and has been largely dormant since 2017's StarCraft Remastered; BlizzCon returns on 12 September after a three-year hiatus, when more details may emerge.
