New here? Start with this

Norse warlord Erik Bloodaxe, remembered in history and legend as a fierce Viking-age ruler, is the subject of this Amazon Prime Video drama, which imagines his violent bid to seize and hold the throne of Norway alongside his wife, the equally formidable Gunnhild. The series mixes historical figures with dramatised court intrigue, betrayal and warfare, in the vein of other big-budget historical epics. It stars Xavier Molyneux and Jessica Madsen in the lead roles and is written and created by brothers Michael and Horatio Hirst, with MGM Television among the producers.

The show was renewed for a second season in June, and production has now moved to Ireland, where filming is under way. No premiere date has yet been announced. Casting news, such as new additions to the ensemble, is part of the run-up to that eventual release and gives an early indication of the scale and direction of the next set of episodes.
