Bluesky has a new setting to help you avoid accidentally going viral
Bluesky has introduced a privacy setting that lets users stop their posts being recommended to non-followers in its algorithmic Discover feed. The change is intended to reduce the risk of users unexpectedly going viral, while giving them more control over how widely their content is surfaced.
The setting applies to an entire account rather than individual posts, so all posts will be excluded from Discover recommendations once enabled. It does not make an account private: Bluesky does not offer private accounts, and posts may still appear in other algorithmic feeds or services using its AT Protocol; however, Discover remains a major route through which non-followers find posts.
- Bluesky users can opt out of Discover recommendations to non-followers.
- The setting affects an entire account, not individual posts.
- Posts can still be visible elsewhere and accounts remain public.
