Bo Derek reveals why she felt like an ‘impostor’ and walked away from Hollywood despite blockbuster fame

Fox News · 1 month ago

Actress Bo Derek has explained why she stepped away from Hollywood at the height of her fame, telling Bill Maher's "Club Random" podcast that celebrity always felt uncomfortable and inauthentic to her. Best known for the 1979 film "10", Derek said she has happily embraced retirement and has no wish to return to acting, a stance she acknowledges many people struggle to understand.

Derek, who has lived just north of Santa Barbara since 1981, said her rise to fame was a "whirlwind" she never sought, having landed her breakout role by "fluke" with no agent, manager or ambitions to act. She admitted feeling like an "impostor" seeing her image across magazines, partly because she had not put in the work that other aspiring actors did. Maher endorsed her decision, telling her she was "not missing anything".
