A senior official on President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has criticised both Israel’s continuing air strikes in Gaza and Hamas’s failure to fully halt military activity. Nickolay Mladenov told the UN Security Council that the October ceasefire could reach a “point of no return” if it collapses, threatening plans for Gaza’s administration, reconstruction and future security arrangements.

The dispute centres on the sequence for Hamas’s disarmament and an Israeli troop withdrawal: the Board of Peace roadmap proposes verified weapons handovers alongside a phased withdrawal, while Israel says Hamas must disarm completely first. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry says 1,303 Palestinians, including 300 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began; Israel says four soldiers have been killed in Palestinian attacks. The UN estimates about two thirds of Gaza’s two million residents are living in tents or makeshift shelters.
