A boat carrying at least 95 people has capsized on Zimbabwe’s Lake Kariba, and several people are feared dead as rescue operations continue. The incident raises concerns about passenger safety, possible overloading and the accuracy of official records for those travelling on the lake.

Police said the vessel had 90 passengers and five crew members aboard, while ticket records reportedly suggest 114 adults were travelling, with an unknown number of children possibly also on board. A witness said the boat left in bad weather and may have been struck by a wave; the journey to Kariba town usually takes around five hours.
