Body found in search for British man, 23, who disappeared from boat party in Portugal

Daily Mail · 9 minutes ago

The body of a missing British man has been found in Lisbon's Tagus River, days after he disappeared following a boat party in the Portuguese capital. Julian Amaral, 23, from High Wycombe, vanished around midnight last Wednesday, prompting a search by police divers amid unconfirmed reports that CCTV footage showed him falling into the water. His discovery brings a tragic end to a search that had briefly been suspended by Portuguese authorities before his body was located.

Portugal's Maritime Police confirmed the body was recovered on Saturday evening near the Liscont Terminal quay in Alcantara, after an alert was raised around 7.20pm. Amaral had been attending the Vida de Jovem Boat Party, a youth-oriented music event with an all-white dress code, when he reportedly told his cousin he was going to the toilet before disappearing around 11.25pm. A security guard told police he saw him leaving the vessel after it docked, though officials said the strongest indication was that he had fallen into the river; his sister Jennifer confirmed his death to The Sun, describing him as her "baby" brother.
