Body of Illinois Man Reported Missing After Electric Forest Found in Wooded Area Near Festival

Billboard · 1 month ago

Michigan State Police have announced that the body of a 28-year-old man reported missing after this year's Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, Michigan, was found in nearby woodland. Jerard Jackson, an Illinois native, was reported missing on 29 June after leaving the four-day electronic music event, and his body was later discovered close to his parked rental car. Officials said he appeared to have died by suicide, with no indication of foul play, though the investigation remains ongoing.

On the morning of 29 June, troopers had responded to Jackson's campsite after he reported an alleged criminal incident involving a friend, but after interviewing those involved they concluded no incident had taken place, and he left the venue shortly afterwards. He left his phone and belongings behind, and his rental car was later found unoccupied with his wallet and keys inside. Separately, police are also investigating the death of a newborn — described as a "neonate" — whose body was found in a portable toilet in the Good Life camping area on the festival's final day; no arrests have been made, an autopsy has been completed but the cause of death is pending, and officers are still searching for the woman who gave birth at the event, which drew upwards of 50,000 people to the Double JJ Ranch over 25–28 June.
