Bonobo shares new single with Arooj Aftab, ‘Fire on the Water’: Listen

DJ Mag · 2 months ago

Bonobo, the electronic producer whose real name is Simon Green, has released two new singles, 'Fire on the Water' — featuring Pakistani-American artist Arooj Aftab — and 'Drift'. Both tracks are taken from his forthcoming album, 'Distance In Static', which is due for release on 11th September via Ninja Tune, signalling the next chapter in his output and giving fans a first taste of the record.

The album will also feature collaborations with Joy Crookes, Nilüfer Yanya, Nicole Miglis, Ichiko Aoba and Aanya Martin. 'Fire on the Water' was recorded at Neil Young's Broken Arrow Ranch in California, where Green spent several weeks working on the album, and the track grew from a simple guitar loop he recorded while testing equipment. Green said the song was the moment he "could first see an album coming into shape", while Aftab praised the collaboration and noted the lyrics were written by her friend Yasra Rizvi. In support of the record, Bonobo has announced a series of North American live shows, including dates in Dallas, Los Angeles and Portland, with more expected to be announced shortly.
