Buddy Spicher, born Norman Keith Spicher in DuBois, Pennsylvania on 28 July 1938, was a leading member of Nashville's celebrated "A-Team" session musicians and one of country music's most sought-after fiddlers between the 1960s and 1980s. His recordings with an extraordinary range of stars, including Reba McEntire, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Willie Nelson and Linda Ronstadt, made him a defining, if largely uncredited, voice behind the genre's golden era.

Spicher learnt guitar from his brother and fiddle from his uncles, and was performing on local radio by the age of 13. After stints with the WWVA Jamboree and touring bands backing Hank Williams's widow Audrey Williams and Hank Snow, he settled into full-time Nashville session work from 1968, recording with Country Music Hall of Fame members including Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller, Charley Pride and Bob Wills. He also played with the group Area Code 615 and, beyond country, worked with artists such as Rosemary Clooney, the Monkees and Joan Baez. In 2008 he was honoured as one of the Country Music Hall of Fame's "Nashville Cats", and he continued teaching, at Belmont University until 2016, as well as producing and arranging music.
