Bournemouth University has built a strong reputation for launching careers in film, television and media, with graduates contributing to Oscar-winning films including KPop Demon Hunters and Avatar: Fire And Ash this year, and student productions winning national journalism and radio awards. Despite this creative pedigree and a solid graduate employment record, the university's overall league table position has slipped this year, driven largely by weak scores in the National Student Survey, while applications have fallen for three consecutive years.

The university, home to around 20,000 students across its Talbot and Lansdowne campuses, offers substantial financial support, with more than one in five students receiving some form of assistance, including an £800-a-year maintenance bursary and bursaries worth up to £3,000 annually for care leavers and estranged students. A hardship fund paid out £577,000 in 2024-25, and additional support includes laptop vouchers, fuel vouchers and scholarships for music and sport. Bournemouth was also voted the UK's top university for mental health and wellbeing support in the 2025 Whatuni Student Choice Awards, with accommodation costs ranging from £5,926 to £11,626 depending on the option chosen.
