Actor and comedian Bowen Yang, best known for "Saturday Night Live," will make his Broadway debut this autumn in "Oh, Mary!", taking over the lead role of Mary Todd Lincoln in the acclaimed comedy. His run begins on 15 September and continues until 6 December, with Yang succeeding current star Meg Stalter in a role that has been passed between a string of high-profile performers since the show opened.
Written by Cole Escola, who also originated the title role, and directed by Sam Pinkleton, "Oh, Mary!" reimagines the former first lady as a boozy, disgruntled aspiring cabaret singer. Yang, who has appeared in films such as "Wicked" and "Fire Island" and left "SNL" in December, joins continuing cast members Phillip James Brannon, Barrett Foa and Bianca Leigh, alongside returning original cast member Tony Macht. Understudy Hannah Solow will fill the role on 13 September, just before Yang steps in; previous performers in the part have included Maya Rudolph, Jinkx Monsoon, Tituss Burgess and Jane Krakowski.

Bowen Yang is a comedian and actor who spent six years as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, leaving the show in December, and has also appeared in films including Wicked and Fire Island. In September he will make his Broadway debut, stepping into the lead role of a stage show for the first time.
The production in question, Oh, Mary!, is a comedy written by Cole Escola, who also originated its lead role. It imagines Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of US President Abraham Lincoln, as a frustrated would-be cabaret performer, and has become known on Broadway for regularly swapping in famous names to play its central character, with past performers including Maya Rudolph and Jane Krakowski.
Yang will take over the part from Meg Stalter, the current lead, joining a cast that includes several performers who have been with the show for some time. His run is scheduled to last around three months, reflecting the show's pattern of rotating well-known comic actors through its starring role.
