"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has posted the third-biggest second weekend in box office history, taking $145 million domestically and pushing Sony and Marvel's superhero sequel towards milestones no film has previously achieved. Analysts are now watching whether the Tom Holland-led picture can become the first film ever to reach $1 billion at the domestic box office and the first to hit $3 billion worldwide, having already blown past the $1 billion global mark in just six days.
The film has now taken $655 million in North America and $1.67 billion globally, building on a record-setting $355 million domestic opening. Its second-weekend total trails only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($149 million, 2015) and "Avengers: Endgame" ($147 million, 2019), with just eight films ever having topped $100 million in their second weekend; "The Force Awakens" remains the domestic record-holder at $936.6 million. Elsewhere, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" earned $31.5 million in its fourth weekend, taking it past $461 million domestically and $1.1 billion worldwide to become Nolan's highest-grossing film, with the movie yet to open in China.
