The R-rated, nearly three-hour retelling of Homer's epic, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, has taken $639.6 million worldwide despite its demanding length and rating, with strong holds suggesting continued momentum before it even opens in major markets such as China, Japan and Korea.

The film has earned $353.2 million internationally and $284.4 million domestically, backed by a $250 million budget from Universal, and posted the best second-weekend hold on record for a film that opened above $100 million overseas. Imax screenings, notable as the first feature shot entirely on Imax cameras, have generated $140 million, with the format's rare 70mm screens selling out into September.
