The result highlights the continuing appeal of the early-2000s comedy and comes as Disney Plus has revived the programme with a new four-episode continuation.

The original series follows gifted but exasperated Malcolm, played by Frankie Muniz, amid the chaos of his working-class suburban family, led by Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) and Hal (Cranston). The revival, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, premiered in April and reunites Cranston, Kaczmarek, Muniz, Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson; it sees adult Malcolm return for his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary.
