‘Breaking Bad’ Star’s ‘John Wick’ Replacement Officially Dominates HBO Max
Bob Odenkirk's 2026 action film has become an unexpected hit on HBO Max, despite flopping at the cinema. Directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Derek Kolstad, the John Wick creator, the film was intended to further cement Odenkirk's status as an action star following Nobody and Nobody 2, but its box office performance fell well short of expectations, making its streaming resurgence a notable turnaround.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025 before its April 2026 theatrical release by Magnolia Pictures, in which Odenkirk plays an interim sheriff in a small Minnesota town under attack from the Yakuza. It grossed just $6 million against a reported $20 million budget, but earned solid reviews, which appear to be driving its strong performance now that it is streaming on HBO Max.
