The BBC has renewed the comedy Ann Droid for a second series after its strong launch audience of 7.6 million viewers, making it one of the broadcaster’s biggest hits of the year. The renewal underlines the show’s successful reception and keeps its central story of a self-help robot assisting an older woman moving forward.

Created by and starring Diane Morgan, the series follows Sue, played by Sue Johnston, who receives a second-hand droid from her son Michael, played by Paul Ready, so she can live independently. Morgan co-writes the programme with Sarah Kendall; it is produced by Boffola Pictures and Witchcraft Industries for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, while BBC Studios will handle international sales.
