Wendy Weissman, a poker player and owner of a Hermosa Beach townhome, says a French Airbnb guest has refused to leave after his booking ended and stopped paying. The case highlights how stays of 30 days or more can give guests tenancy protections in California, requiring a formal eviction rather than an immediate removal.

Weissman said Evhan Lemarck initially booked the $1.9 million property for a month and paid for 48 days before ceasing payments. She alleges he has remained in the home, while an attorney said an eviction could take six months or longer; Weissman estimates she could lose more than $70,000 in rental income while continuing to meet mortgage, tax and legal costs.
