Brentford sign Wilson after West Ham exit
Brentford have signed former England striker Callum Wilson on a 12-month contract after he became a free agent. Wilson left West Ham following the club's relegation from the Premier League, and his arrival gives Brentford added attacking experience and depth as they prepare for the new season.
The 34-year-old scored seven goals in 32 appearances for West Ham last season and brings extensive top-flight experience from spells at West Ham, Newcastle United and Bournemouth, along with nine England caps between 2018 and 2023 and an appearance at the 2022 World Cup. Manager Keith Andrews praised the signing, saying Wilson has the "nous to score goals" and will provide competition and guidance for Brazil international Igor Thiago and Kaye Furo. Brentford insist Thiago is not for sale despite reported offers of £80m or £90m, while Wilson's move follows the arrival of Jaidon Anthony from Burnley and ends links with a return to his boyhood club Coventry City.
