Bret Michaels, frontman of Poison, has postponed his Live & Amplified solo tour after undergoing a complicated operation to remove a kidney stone. The 63-year-old rocker experienced severe kidney pain during a run of shows, including a private concert in Spokane, Washington on 18 July, and was rushed to hospital when he was unable to pass the stone naturally, requiring emergency surgery.

Doctors successfully fitted a ureteral stent during the procedure, but Michaels has been ordered not to perform for three to four weeks and to limit himself to light activity while he recovers. His physician, Dr Abby Borhan, warned that strenuous exertion risks pain spikes, bleeding or the stent shifting out of place, with the recovery further complicated by Michaels' Type 1 diabetes and a lower back compression fracture, which raise his risk of infection. Shows scheduled between 30 July and 15 August have been cancelled or postponed, with Michaels hoping to resume touring in late August; he has faced several serious health scares in the past, including a brain haemorrhage in 2010 and heart surgery in 2011.
