Bret Michaels has said he underwent emergency surgery after a kidney stone failed to pass following nearly a week of severe pain. The Poison singer performed three shows during the ordeal before being admitted to hospital the day after the last performance, highlighting the strain he faced while continuing his touring commitments.

Michaels said the operation was complete and that he was recovering after surgery, thanking medical staff as well as family, friends and fans. He plans to return to performing once cleared medically, with a private event in Orlando scheduled for 25 July and further US dates through November; meanwhile, Poison’s proposed 40th-anniversary tour was reportedly cancelled amid a dispute over finances.
