## Key points

- Murphy apologised to Cashman after his Yankees comments went viral.
- He said the remark was a private joke with Jake Bauers.
- Bauers played for the Yankees in 2023 before joining Milwaukee.

## Summary

Brewers manager Pat Murphy says he called Yankees general manager Brian Cashman after a video circulated of him criticising the Yankees during Milwaukee’s World Series celebrations. Murphy said he regretted the remark and wanted to explain that he was not talking about the 2026 Yankees.

Murphy said the comments were part of a running joke with Brewers player Jake Bauers, who is approaching free agency, about leaving Milwaukee and forgetting how the team plays. He said he was referring generally to teams with many highly paid, long-contract players, whom he believes can find it harder to play together. Bauers had played for the Yankees in 2023 before joining Milwaukee later that year.
